Which Individual Support stream fits your goal?
Start with the people and setting you want to support, then check the written elective list.
What is required for Ageing?
The Ageing specialisation requires all three Group A units: CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia; CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care; and CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach.
What is required for Disability?
The Disability specialisation requires all three Group B units: CHCDIS011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach; CHCDIS012 Support community participation and social inclusion; and CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support.
What does the dual stream use?
Ageing and Disability uses all three Group A units and all three Group B units. These occupy all six elective places. Ask whether any advertised extra training is outside the award.
Can you choose a general package?
A valid mixed package may lead to the general award. It still needs at least three electives from Group A or B, with remaining choices from A, B or C and a valid vocational outcome.
What should you check before choosing?
- The exact award and specialisation wording.
- All six elective codes and their groups.
- Why the mix fits your intended work.
- Whether the provider offers that package and suitable practical learning.
How does your stream affect practical planning?
Ageing, Disability, the dual stream and a general package share the nine core units, including CHCCCS040. The direct support work and evidence requirement still applies. Ask how the host setting and your chosen electives fit the work you want to do.
