What should you check before placement?

Qualification entry, provider admission and workplace permission are separate decisions.

Can an NDIS check apply to students?

Risk-assessed NDIS roles can include student placements. Ask the host which screening route applies to the role and state or territory. Being enrolled does not itself provide clearance.

What about aged-care screening?

The aged-care guidance checked on 8 October 2026 describes police-certificate or NDIS screening routes. It refers to a future national check in development; do not treat proposed reforms as already in force.

Can you start while a check is pending?

An application is not general permission to start. Any conditional arrangement has specific limits. Obtain a clear answer from the host and provider about the applicable rule before beginning work.

What remains to be confirmed for your location?

What should the provider and host confirm together?

Identify the intended role, sector and host before deciding which checks apply. Course admission, an application for a check and permission to begin a placement are different decisions. Ask for written confirmation of the applicable process and what must be accepted before the first shift.
